TIPFFest is Turning 3!

This year the friendship between TIPFFest, the Consulate General of Portugal and Instituto Camões deepened with a partnership created to bring classic and contemporary films to the public in a series of monthly community screenings. This successful and delightful experience revived such classics as A Vizinha do Lado, Ala Arriba! and A Costa Do Castelo. These films had everyone in the house smiling and laughing ear to ear. We also included new films by local Luso-Canadian filmmakers such as my very own Pass the Gift and the culturally relevant The Shoeshine Boy.

But now we say adeus to the second edition and head full force into our third season.

The biggest thrill this year is to join in on the fun of Euro Cup and pay tribute to this magical fire some call Ginga. We bring the Canadian Premier of Tom Hillier’s brilliant documentary film celebrating one of Portugal’s most famous exports: Jose Mourinho. Being Jose Mourinho is off the hook for exploring the psychology and the motives behind the ever mysterious and über confident coach.

With films from local and international filmmakers from Canada, Portugal, Brazil, Sri Lanka, and other exotic lands, this year’s cinematic celebration is perhaps the most exciting one yet. We welcome back to the festival Bill Moniz with his second documentary Portuguese Joe: The Forgotten Pioneer, and greet for the first time Fernando Monte, Miguel Gaudêncio, Beto Brant, Renato Ciasca and Ari Candido Fernandes, among many others.

Our chief concern is making sure that Luso-Descendant filmmakers from all over the world, including our home bred talent, are given the exposure they deserve. We want to nurture the process of creation and commemorate the work they produce. TIPFFest believes that together with brilliant filmmakers, we can celebrate year after year and raise the profile of our talent and their style of story-telling. So, come explore with us the ever quintessential Luso images of love, laughter, drama and discovery.

Let’s kick off this birthday bash! Come help us blow out the candles.
